When replacing your roof, the underlayment is one of the first things we install. It is an important part of a residential roofing system because the underlayment covers the roof deck. The underlayment’s main purpose is to protect your roof deck from all sorts of damage, so it’s important to invest in a high-quality underlayment when replacing your roof. Learn more about the underlayment here:
The Purpose of the Underlayment
The underlayment provides a layer of separation between the roof sheathing and the shingles, and creates a moisture barrier. Roof coverings like asphalt shingles act as your roof’s primary defense against roof leaks. The underlayment acts as the secondary barrier. In addition, while newer homes use plywood or oriented strand board for roof sheathing, old homes used fir and pine boards. The resin pockets in these old boards can react chemically with some roof covering materials, so the underlayment prevents this.
The underlayment also acts as temporary protection during roof installation. While most roof installations are completed quickly, there is usually a little time when the underlayment is the only thing protecting the roof. The underlayment performs this job adequately because all manufacturers design their underlayment to prevent the passage of moisture in its liquid form. As residential and commercial roofing expert, we use only the best quality underlayment for our customers.
We are a certified GAF contractor and this allows us to offer and install the complete GAF Lifetime Roofing System. One of the essential components of this system is its high-quality underlayment. Deck-Armor is exceptionally strong, and it features revolutionary breathable technology. It helps prevent moisture from being trapped within your roof, while still preventing roof leaks. It also lies flatter once installed, so your shingles will look flat and uniform after roof replacement.
